Psychic hotlines are almost a dirty secret, many are embarrassed to admit that they use them, and they are even frowned upon within the Tarot Community. What is the truth about psychic hotlines? This is a highly complex topic with no black or white answer, so I want to use my experience to give you as much information as I can and tell you the good, the bad and the ugly about hotlines and how they work!
Psychic Hotlines: Are They All A Scam?
The first thing that is important to understand is that, believe it or not, the psychic industry moves a lot – a HUGE lot – of money. It is a multi-billion industry very close to the kind of revenue that is made by (drumroll) the adult industry.
As a matter of fact, the owner of Oranum.com – a well known psychic site – is no other than the owner of LiveJasmin – an adult site well known for live cam shows – so you can get an idea of the business! Where am I going with this? Bear with me, I swear this is not just another one of my Tarot and sex theories! My point here is, the CEO of most psychic sites doesn’t care in the slightest about whether or not there’s some truth to their business, or whether or not the psychics hired are legit, or whether or not you are getting your job.
Does this mean that hotlines are a no-go? Well, not entirely. While this information may not sound particularly promising, there are more nuances to this than it seems. Psychic hotlines are usually owned by large corporations, and as it happens in most large corporations, they work thanks to the joint effort of many, many people. We have discussed the perspective of the senior side of these corporations, and it is safe to determine with 99% certainty that the CEO probably doesn’t know what constitutes a psychic to begin with. But what about the rest?
Most psychic sites claim to have tested the skills of each and every advisor, but this may not mean what you think it means! There are sites with very demanding testing, but in my experience, these are the least. Yes, psychic sites do test you, but they are not testing your skills at divination, they are testing your skills at consistent storytelling. The people you interact with at this point, is to say, the company’s recruiters or managers, are usually very nice people that are hand-tied by the company’s requirements just doing their job the best they can.
These recruiters are often interested in the spiritual world and in divination, and may even have some idea about how it works, but they are complying with the guidelines of the company when recruiting. They are not focusing on whether you’re right or wrong, but on your potential to be profitable as a reader. They probably do care about customers and advisors, but they have to do what they have to do.
And what they have to do is pick people who have amazing story-telling skills. A concise reader isn’t very likely to pass the cut, regardless of whether or not they are skilled, because their goal is to fill minutes, and you don’t fill minutes unless you’re able to captivate the client. The problem comes with the fact that it doesn’t really matter if you’re actually a good reader or psychic, but that you are fluent in your speech and that you have the ability to leave people wanting to know more.
Hotlines: What you need to know
Psychic hotlines are a service that, for better or for worse, covers a need. However; Make no mistake. The business model of most psychic hotlines is predatory as hell! As a professional reader, I can tell you that the clientele in the hotlines is, in general, very different from the clientele in private consultations, and the companies know it!
The main difference between a private consultation and a psychic hotline is the state of mind of the clients that you get. This is of course a generalization, but I’m taking about the big picture here and about what is the most common, for it is the general behaviour of the clientele and not the specific what a company bases its business on.
Psychic hotlines are mainly crisis lines. They are available 24/7 and that’s quite a double-edged sword. They are there when your ex gives you a bootycall at 3am on a Saturday, when you’re having a toilet break at work and your co-worker has been petty and the second you lose your job. It is this immediate availability that makes the service so enticing, but as well, the lack of a cool-down period between the reason for your reading and the reading itself, leaves you as a client in a rather vulnerable position.
This, together with the fact that not all advisors are proper advisors and knowing that the companies know it and couldn’t care less, doesn’t sound particularly promising. Does it? Well, allow me to pull the thread a bit more!
Advisors: The wheat and the chaff
It’s not a secret that the spiritual community is a hotbed for people who need attention and validation for diverse reasons, and it is oftentimes where all common sense comes to die. In the spiritual world, the trend is that nobody can argue what you are and what you’re not, and that the lack of regulation allows everyone to give themselves the title they see fit. Add to the equation that the selection process of most hotlines is not particularly extensive and that what they consider a fit may not be necessarily what’s best and you get a big puddle! However, it is also true that there are many talented and honest professionals in the hotlines, but the negative part is that they are mixed with not so good ones. So, in this environment, how can you know when you’re in the presence of a legit reader?
If you want my advice, don’t use hotlines where you cannot choose your reader yourself. There are plenty of options that allow you to connect with a particular advisor and this way, your chances of landing with someone decent increase exponentially. As well, following these tips will help you separate the wheat from the chaff and spot the good readers.
There are three main things that you need to pay attention to; Profile, Specialties and Reviews. But it is not as easy as reading them, it is in the interpretation where the magic happens!
Check a few profiles: Self imposed titles, fancy words, claims of accuracy and menacing statements are a big red flag! If the profile speaks more about themselves than about what they can do for you, explains zero about their method and is basically masturbatory praise of the advisor in question and their superpowers, run for your life. You will be better off with someone whose profile sounds a little less grand and a bit more sensible. The mark of a professional is when they orient their services to what they can do for you, not to enhance their own satisfaction with themselves.
In the same line, when an advisor declares to possess each and every clair and then some and be specialists in everything, chances are they know a bit of lots and lots of nothing! You may want to choose someone who knows a couple of methods like the back of their hands over a Jack of All Trades.
And now reviews. How reliable are reviews and how to interpret them? There are a few things to consider here!
First of all, there’s usually a deadline to leave reviews in hotlines and apps, so they are usually left in the heat of the moment. What does this mean? That they are not too trustworthy, both the good and the bad ones. As well, my experience has taught me that only about one-quarter of the clients actually leave a review.
A phenomenon that occurs, specially with bad reviews, is serial bad reviewers! If you visit several profiles, you will probably see that bad reviews usually belong to the same authors and the complaints of the same person are not very different from advisor to advisor. What is the trick then? How do you know what reviews are worth looking at? My recommendation is that you take some time and look for the detailed reviews, both positive and negative, for these will give you a better idea of what to expect. As well, look for repeating clients! This will help you know that this advisor is doing a good job!
Psychic Hotlines: Yay Or Nay?
With this information, it is up to you to decide whether or not psychic hotlines are your jam. You can still have a very enjoyable and edifying experience in a psychic hotline if you know what to look for, but I do encourage you to take some time to choose who you want to trust with your issues.
